Franklin (Georgie) crossed the bridge at his home in Tennessee. Missy, as well as his brothers Pete and Fritz were there as we all said goodbye. At his last vet checkup, they estimated he was 17-18 years old and recommended medication for his arthritis. And Franklin got 18 more life and love-filled months with his family.
Thanks to DRNA, he came into our lives in late July of 2016 and already had some silver on his muzzle but that didn’t stop him from getting 8 amazing years with us. We know that despite his temporary stay in the shelter and his unfortunate time with a family who didn’t want him, someone along the way loved him dearly. They’ll be together again as we all hope to be with those furry angels that come into our lives.
With arthritis, complete blindness, kidney disease leading to increasing incontinence, and sundowners/dementia leading to wandering, we decided for his safety and dignity, that it was the right time to say goodbye. His last week consisted of 7 nights of salmon for dessert, a trip with me on a round of golf in the mountains for some fresh air, and a few sips of German beer right before saying goodbye. In looking back at his photos from rescue, foster, and with us and his adopted brothers, I noticed that his worried face slowly faded away.
