I have met and fostered MANY dogs over my 15+ years of rescue but very few have stole my heart like this little girl. Her story is a long one but I will try to keep it short. She was rescued from the streets of TX along with her 5 puppies. She and her unvaccinated puppies were sent to MD where some of her puppies got sick and passed away. She was seized by animal control from her MD rescue and brought to a MD shelter where it was determined that she was heartworm positive. When her face came across social media for a foster, I was drawn to her. I can't explain why, sometimes it just happens. DRNA made an exception (she is obviously not a dachshund) and agreed to take her into our rescue. Lola spent the first few days in her foster home enjoying dog beds, collecting & hoarding toys. She likely had never seen a toy before. After a few days, she started playing with them. She moved on to collecting her foster family's shoes, slippers and flip flops. In the meantime, she really loved snuggling with her foster dad on the couch too. She is a gentle, happy soul that holds no grudges against the humans that let her and her babies down.
Once she was settled, it was time to start her heartworm treatment. She had a tough time at the start of her recovery leading to an urgent vet visit. Lola is a trooper and each day is showing improvement. She will be on strict rest for the next 6 weeks. Her foster family will love and spoil her while recovering. The bigger picture for Lola is much brighter, the dark days are now behind her. Soon, DRNA will match her with the perfect family and she will live out the rest of her days like the princess that she is!
Her treatment and vet care will run about $400-$500. If you would like to donate towards her care, click on her link.
