Dawn came to us from shelter in NC. This very friendly girl was found in a drainage ditch. She had some skin issues that seem to be responding quickly to good nutrition. Dawn was named by the shelter but we find that she seems to respond to the name “Gretel.” She was obviously someone’s pet. She longs for the company of a person and has settled into her foster home having no problem with the resident dogs – even the grumpy one. She has not had even one accident in the house. She looks at you as though she can understand what you say and wants so badly for you to understand and love her. When her healthy weight is achieved she will likely be a small standard. She is also very timid around strangers and in any unfamiliar situation. There will be some work involved in socializing her which was not realized when she first came in. It will take time for her to trust that she isn’t being left alone again so we would prefer a placement where she will not be left alone for long periods of time. If you want a wonderful companion that melts in your arms Dawn/Gretel is the dog for you. For more photos go to http://southeastvadachshundrescue.shutterfly.com/dawn |
