| Scooter is a 2.5-year-old neutered male purebred dachshund. Although he is wirehaired, he does shed some. He is crate-trained but will need continued reinforcement with housebreaking. Scooter spent the first year of his life in a breeder’s barn with a concrete floor, so unfortunately he learned to relieve himself indoors and/or on concrete surfaces. He has made great progress and continues to improve, but he will still need reminders, consistency, and clear boundaries as he fully learns that pottying is for outside only. Scooter is very attached to his people and can initially be wary of strangers, though he warms up quickly once he feels comfortable. He enjoys the company of other dogs after he becomes familiar with them. However, on a leash, he may bark and act defensive toward unfamiliar dogs.Off leash and in group environments such as doggy daycare, Scooter does very well. He knows basic commands, is affectionate, eager to please, and thrives on human connection. When corrected for getting into mischief, Scooter immediately rolls onto his back for belly rubs as his way of apologizing. He would do best in a home with experienced dachshund owners who understand the breed’s personality and are willing to give him the patience, structure, and understanding he needs to continue growing into the best version of himself. A fenced yard and dog buddy would be ideal. Must be willing to travel to Glenwood, MD to meet/adopt Scooter. His adoption fee is $275. |
