Biography
Holly was part of a hoarding/neglect case in Louisiana and came to MD to start her rescue journey. While settling into foster care and recovering from heartworm treatment, she has really come out of her shell. Holly is the resident security guard, alerting of any suspicious activity. For this reason, a condo/apartment/townhouse may not be the best fit for her new forever home. She has a very high prey drive so a secured fenced yard is a must! She loves other dogs so a dog buddy her size is preferred or at least a stay at home adopter that will give her plenty of attention and exercise. She is totally housebroken-yay! She has been around older children but not small children and we are unsure about cats but given her prey drive, might not work out so well. She is happy and healthy otherwise (oh, she does have an eye that runs chronically but the vet says nothing to worry about). We believe Holly is a mix, her legs are just slightly longer.
Adoption fee is $275. Must be willing to drive to Gambrills, MD to meet/adopt Holly.
This is what her foster mom had to say:
"You won’t meet a sweeter, more loving, devoted dog than Holly. She is a very smart and listens well. She is housebroken, crate trained and gets along wonderfully with the other (4) dogs in our household which are all females and about the same size. She will want your attention and to sit in your lap so she will require a home that can give her the attention she deserves.
Holly enjoys wondering around the yard off leash, especially in nice weather so she will require a house with a nice sized, securely fenced, yard. Although it is not required, I would also like for Holly to have a partner that is about the same size and age as herself, which is approximately 3 years old. She loves to play in the yard and snuggle with our other 3-year-old dog.
After 4 months in our care, Holly is just now overcoming some separation issues. We are home most days but during 3 of those 4 months she would howl for a while when we went out. I would prefer she go to a forever home where she will be with someone that is home during the day and crate free since that is what she is now used to. Holly spent enough time in a crate in her past life.
If you have cats, she would need to be tested beforehand. I don’t think she would ever hurt them but I think the chase would be on. On a final note, Holly is a barker if the door bell rings (in real life and on tv) or if she is outside and a neighbor is in their yard.
We have grown very attached to Holly so I would personally like to come to the home of her potential adopter to meet her new family. She is nearly a perfect dog and I want her to have a perfect home. "
