Biography
Martini is a different dog today than she was when she first came into rescue. We look at her in amazement when we think back to her cowering and submissive urinating when she first came to us.
We started by getting some weight off of Martini. She has lost three or four pounds, which makes a huge difference in how she looks and feels. She is still a big girl – she is no mini! She barely fits into the tweeny category.
The submissive urination has almost completely stopped. Occasionally, she will cower and leave a little gift for us. But it is nothing like it was. I think fear played a big factor in her problem, and now that she is comfortable with us, she can be picked up and she can come to you without the accidents. She has also been getting a lot more exercise, which may help strengthen up her back end and tighten her muscles, which gives her better control over her urination.
Martini wins the award at our house for the most significantly changed dog ever in our fostering experience. She is now a fun, loving, playful girl. She LOVES to chew on her rope toy, and will play fetch with you. She runs and runs and runs with the other dogs, and always wants her share of the affection. She is not shy about trying to get your attention, and is a great friend and couch mate. With her accidents dwindling, she has been able to sleep in the bed. She is a burrower, and wants to be under the covers, right next to your legs. She also still spends some nights in her crate, which she does well with, after just a few minutes of the saddest howling you will ever hear!!!
Martini will be a wonderful playmate and companion for someone. I think she needs to be around only older kids who have learned to be respectful. Small kids might frighten her and start her problems all over again. Originally, we thought Martini should be an only dog as we saw what we thought was aggression.
Please love Martini and take her home. She really needs a forever home to settle into. Give us a call – you won’t be sorry!!!!!
