| The shelter had Toby & Alexa listed as 3 yrs old during their week stay, our rescue helper guessed 5 yrs, and the DRNA transporter guessed 5-7 yrs. They were all jaw dropped when they reviewed the complete Vet record that were dropped off that day and saw that the dogs were 11 yrs old… NO WAY! So we contacted the Vet and sure enough he had been caring for them their whole life and they were both born August 1, 1999. These 2 must have been drinking out of the fountain of youth. There are no signs (teeth, skin, coat, or movement) that these dogs are any older than 6-7 yrs. We guess they are an example of what good health care can do for a dog. And they did have good care during the past 11 yrs of their life. Their former owner is a retired Marine who sadly has to move and into a place that does not allow pets. She had tried to find a new home for Toby & Alexa on her own and failed. So that is how they ended up at the shelter, with their former owner heartbroken and worried until she learned DRNA was coming to the rescue. You can tell these 2 are Marine dogs… squared away and well behaved. They seem to get along with everyone and every dog (no kitties though). They aren’t happy about being baby gated at night in the kitchen in their foster home. And if it wasn’t for the other dogs would be fine loose in the house or in the big bed. They love to be next to you on the sofa or in your lap, one on each side. But like a Marine they are always ready to go on an adventure, so will need to always be on a leash or within a fenced in yard when outside. So please consider giving these 2 retired Marine Dachshunds a home.
