Biography
Meet Fat Boy… His name is not a derogative one. He is named after Fat Boy motorcycle which is low to the ground and has wide tires. It fits him perfectly as he has very short legs and a sturdy build. He came into rescue with Abby when their owner was unable to give them the care and attention they needed. These are very nice dogs and have been well cared for. Fat Boy is housetrained with access to a doggie door, but like most dachshunds takes some encouragement to go out if raining. He will sleep in a crate but would prefer to either be in a bed near you or even better in the big bed. Fat Boys only quirt is that he is ball aggressive and acts crazy when he gets one. He loves to chase the ball outside but when it’s time to come inside you need to grab it when he drops it take it because he will keep it in his mouth and not give it up unless food is offered in exchange. Therefore, Fat Boy would not do well with children at all because he is ball/toy aggressive. He wants them and would not share. Would grab a toy from a child and not like it if the child tried to take it back. He very friendly with adults, but a little shy when confronted with a group of strangers.
Fat Boy gets along with all the other dachshunds both male and female in his foster home. He would like to get a forever home with his buddy Abby, but they are not bonded so can be separated. But he will need another active dachshund or 2 in his new home to play chase with. A fenced in yard is a must as he likes to be outside exploring, chasing squirrels and sunbathing. And being so short legged steps can be a challenge for him, so would need to be carried if more than a step or 2. Also, he like most dachshunds sound the alarm (barks) when he hears a noise, so not a good fit for an apartment, townhouse, or condo.
