Biography
Dorothy and her presumed canine kids Roscoe and Penny recently lost their human mom. Before her death, Dorothy's human mom apparently had been trying to re-home her many dachshunds in anticipation of her death, but we are not totally sure what the complete situation or why these three dears were left. Sadly, when she passed away there was no one to care for these adorable babies and their living conditions were downright horrible!! The night DRNA found out about their plight they had been pulled from a house where they had no food, no water and no warmth (the fire had gone out) and were literally in a box outside with some blankets. Apparently one of the existing dogs had not been friendly to them at all! After talking to us about the freezing temperatures a nice friend hatched a plan to keep them in her bathroom and even gave them baths and put sweaters on them. They were very grateful! The next morning DRNA picked them up. We took all three to the vet where we discovered that everyone needed to be spayed/neutered but that they were great dogs who loved attention and snuggles! Poor Dorothy was clearly in the worst shape of all as she has a completely blind eye bulging with painful Glaucoma which she may have had for some time, but Dorothy is very stoic. We were not sure during her first night in foster care whether she was barking because she missed Roscoe and Penny or whether is was in pain but the meds seem to be helping and we are scheduling her soon to have that eye removed so she can be blissfully pain free finally. If you want to help with her vetting expenses please list her on our Help page, and she will be very grateful. She is the sweetest sweetest dachshund who ever lived, she appears to be pretty well potty trained and she loves everyone...all other dogs and all people. And she is a smuggler as well AND she has just a bit of drama queen in her and LOVES being picked up when she gives you that look. Her former mom called her Chub Chub LOL so she could probably stand to lose a few pounds but she is CLEARLY a Dorothy and she is stunning. She has the most amazingly gorgeous deep red coat you have ever seen. Her children Roscoe and Penny are clearly bonded and want to be adopted together. EXCITING UPDATE: Dorothy had her eye surgery, spay and a dental on Friday February 2, is recuperating nicely and will soon be ready to adopt. She came through the surgery like a champ, is alert and pain free. This girl is special. Woof and Dorothy says she loves you already and hopes that her forever home is with you!
