Dachshund Rescue of North America, Inc. does
not turn away any dachshunds or dachshund mixes for any reason.
We accept them all despite their size, color, sex, age, temperament
and/or health. We believe that all dachshunds whether young
or old, sick or healthy deserve a chance to be loved. These
Special Needs dachshunds need special homes. Homes that will
work with their problems whether it be treatable or chronic.
Some of the health risks DRNA has worked with are:
- Heartworms
- Mange
- Blindness/Deafness
- Malnutrition
- Back Disorders
DRNA will also accept dogs that have been diagnosed with a behavioral problem. In many instances, environment has something to do with the dogs reaction to certain stimuli. We try to help these pups. We have worked with puppy mill dachshunds who tend to have more emotional distress than a shelter rescue. These dogs are now happy and content in their new homes with seldom signs of their former situation. DRNA has worked with behavioral problems such as:
- Fear Biting
- Aggressiveness
- Submissive Urination
- Shyness
- Dog Specific Fears (ex: Fear of men, fear of certain objects, etc.)
