Local boy makes a special DRNA donation

I received this email from Aaron's mother in December 2007:

Ms. Lantz,
My son will be celebrating his ninth birthday in February, and in lieu of gifts for himself is collecting items to donate to an organization or individual who cares for dogs in need of homes. His cousins have a dachshund which he adores, so I thought of contacting someone involved in dachshund rescue.

Because my son has allergies, he cannot have a dog at this time (he does fine with limited contact, say a few hours), but he so loves them! We were hoping to find a place where he could deliver the items in person and give his own gift of some pets and attention to the doggie recipients.

Could you help us in finding a rescue group that could benefit from blankets, dog toys, etc. as well as allow a visit? I would appreciate any leads you could give us. My son is excited about doing something like this for his special day.

Thank you,
Carrie

We kept in touch over a few emails until the end of February when I received this:

Jane,
Aaron had a wonderful party, and he and his friends enjoyed getting gifts for the dogs. One mom said her son was very specific in the kind of leash he wanted. We had printed out pictures of Doc and a few other dogs. The kids loved seeing them. Just let me know if this upcoming weekend would work for you.

Thanks,
Carrie

Yesterday we had an adoption event for adopters to meet our local available dogs for an hour. Aaron came with his parents and his donations. As luck would have it, Doc’s adopters were there looking at another adoption possibility. So Aaron (who still has Doc’s picture up in his room) was able to meet Doc. The crowd of approximately 25 DRNA members, fosters and adopters gave him a big round of applause. Here is Aaron with Doc:

Thank you Aaron - you are a very special young man!!

We welcome any donations,
big or small!
