When we pulled Elke from the shelter, they thought she had been hit by a car. You could tell her pelvis was out of line or crooked. But she could walk, with a slight limp, and had bowel and bladder control. I took her to my vet for ex rays though. My vet said she had a broken pelvis, but it appeared it was either healed, or healing. And nothing else could really be done. So, Elke was soon spayed and even had a dental. She did fine with all of this. So I had a very eager adopter and soon placed her in that home. Well a week later, the adopter reported that Elke was hiding under the bed most of the time, did not want to eat, etc. So she took her to her vets for x-rays. Her vet said that Elke would never get better. What ever that meant...

Dear sweet Tank waited for over 9 months for his forever home. But once in his home, it was found out that he had bladder stones, several large ones at that. This guy is one tough dude. His foster Mom never knew there was any problem. He was urinating fine, and of course Tank is 100% housetrained, so foster Mom never saw any pee with blood it in. Well Tank lives with his new Mom, Breanne near the beach, where there is sand, and she saw the blood in his urine on the sand...

This is Rocky. He appears to be a beautiful red standard boy and is 1 1/2 years old. Rocky weighed in at 16 lbs, pretty good for a dachshund - what you cannot see in this photo is that he is skin and bones. He looks pretty good in the head and face area because he he swollen from a puncture wound that caused a hole in his trachea and allowed air to seep into his tissues around his head and neck. According to our vet he should weigh 20 to 22 lbs...

DRNA was contacted by a vet practice that a Good Samaritan had brought in a young dog he has witnessed being thrown from a moving car and subsequently hit by a truck!! Both back legs were broken and one of his hips...

This is Carlton; he's about 9 yrs old by our vet's estimation. He recently had a dental to remove a great deal of plaque from his horribly neglected mouth. At the time of his dental the vet removed four rotten teeth and estimates he needs to have more removed in another more complicated procedure. Carl has pockets in his gums around his upper canines that are collecting pus and causing bacterial infections. The canals from these pockets continue up into his nasal passages. He also has raw nerves exposed at the gum-lines...
