February 2008

Lillie, Louisville, Kentucky
Adopted Feb 2007
Lillie was dumped in front of the Humane Society in the cold of January. She reportedly didn’t like men but in reality, she just liked who she liked and so there! She now guards her people’s business and does her job quite well. Don’t mess with this tough cookie! She is spoiled rotten.

Gunnar, Lebanon, Indiana
Adopted February 2007
I came from a puppy-mill where I was kept in a tiny cage and given very little to eat. I was taken to an unfriendly shelter, and fortunately a kind person brought me to the Dachshund Rescue of North America. They knew of a Doxie-loving family in Indiana who had room in their hearts and home for another little doggie. Since living with my new family, I’ve learned to pottie outside, to run and play, take walks, go camping, go for rides and eat ice-cream.

Opie, Connecticut
Adopted February 6, 2005
We lucked out — what a great dog from the moment we picked him up in Danbury, CT to today.

Rosie and pups
Rosie was abandoned in a backyard when her owners moved and didn’t take her with them. A neighbor rescued her and contacted DRNA. She was transported from Oklahoma to her foster mommy’s home in PA. Rosie’s puppies were born Dec 1st, 2006 and went to their forever homes on Feb 24th, 2007.

Jenny and Scooter, Grand Island, New York
Both adopted February 2007
Scooter lived with an older woman and was her best friend and companion. When she passed away, the family needed to find a home for him. When I went to pick him up from the family that was surrendering him, I thought he was the cutest little guy and that I would find a home for him right away. I brought him home and my husband took one look at him and said - oh that one will be staying. And he has - he is my little man. Scooter had seizures in the past, but with home cooking and supplements he has not had one since April 07.

His little girlfriend on the right is Jenny. My daughter Katie adopted her. Someone had given Jenny to their family as a Christmas gift (bad idea always) when she was a puppy. They did not like her and thought she was "ugly". They basically ignored her and left her on their deck. A neighbor fell in love with her and took her until we were able to get her. She is one of the sweetest and prettiest little girls ever. She took a while to get the hang of housetraining - but does really well now. They are both very loved and I can't imagine life before them.

Lorna, Indiana
Adopted February 2007
Lorna was pulled from a shelter in Southwestern Oklahoma. It was difficult to tell she was a longhaired dachshund. She had been chained to a tree, eaten up by fleas and was suffering from flea dermatitis. Her coat was sparse and bare in patches all over her body, including her ears. After being examined by a vet, it was determined she had double inguinal hernias and mammary tumors, as well. She now has her own life jacket and goes fishing with her daddy to help him with the “Catch of the Day.” As you can see in the photos, she is saying, “Just look at me now. I’m such a beautiful girl.” And, that she is!!!

Doxie Crow, Crow’s Nest Farm of Friendship, Maryland
Adopted February 17, 2007
“Doxie has become quite the farm dog, going to horse shows, riding in the golf cart (which she loves) and playing with RC. THANK YOU DRNA AND JANE.”
