Stanley is an incredible dog! It was heart-breaking for his family to part with him. He can be described as equal parts lap dog, equal parts trail running, swimming, camping dog. He LOVES to be with his people. However, he struggles with young children, toddlers specifically. He is not proactively aggressive, but he will get aggressive if he gets cornered or feels trapped or over an object like a toy or ball. Besides his uneasiness with toddlers, Stanley is a great dog. He loves to play – he still has some puppy energy but has the snooze capacity of an older dog. He will fetch. He adores swimming. He travels well by car and plane. He’s athletic and enjoys a long walk but is getting to the age where one long walk per day or one long walk every couple of days is perfect for him (with shorter walks otherwise, of course). He really enjoys snuggling in laps or in his bed. He’s crate trained and that’s where he feels safest. If you put him in his crate and cover it with a towel, he will go to sleep like a parakeet. He can do ok alone all day, although for the last 5-6 years, he’s had someone at home most of the day nearly all day, so he has gotten accustomed to the companionship. He is fine with other dogs if given an appropriate introduction. ****Applicant should be willing to drive to Ellicott City, Maryland (10 miles south of Baltimore) to meet and adopt Stanley.**** |
