Biography
Koda is a happy enthusiastic very handsome boy. He loves to play fetch, run with his foster brother and sister, give kisses, go for walks and enjoy life! He is a smart, young fellow who knows his sit command, off command and is working on come. He is also talkative so only single family home living for him. We just ignore him and go about our day - he stops barking within a couple of minutes

Koda had a difficult start in life, taking charge and becoming the dominant force in his original home. Perceiving a lack of leadership he stepped in and filled that role. This made him a very tense unhappy boy. His owners never had a dog before they got Koda and this dachshund was clearly not the right choice for them. Being somewhat insecure this was very stressful for him but in an environment with clear, confident, dog-savvy leadership he has calmed down and thrived! Because of this past history Koda needs a home with confident human leadership, to which he responds with trust and affection.

He will do best with someone who is calm and confident and dachshund experienced - he doesn’t need to be pushed around or forced into submission. Our sense is that he is an insecure dog who wants clear leadership but if backed into a corner and frightened he could be aggressive - the potential is there if he isn't understood. We never raise our voice with him as much as deepen the tone and make it firm. He wants to please so he responds to common sense training well.

If you want a dog who will respond to your leadership with love and trust and who needs your guidance as his pack leader then Koda is the dog for you! ****Applicants must be willing to travel to Ellicott City MD (10 miles south of Baltimore) to meet and adopt Koda.***
