Biography
Say hello to Ziggy Barkdust! He is approximately 3 years old and is what we believe to be a doxle (a dachshund/beagle mix). He looks like a doxie on stilts with a long thick tail that wags a mile a minute 24/7. He seriously is one of the happiest dogs we have fostered yet! We scooped him up from the Parma Animal Shelter. He was found running amuck on the streets with no name, no tags and no microchip. He was held at the shelter for 3 days to see if anyone would come forward. Unfortunately for him no one did. Lucky for us we found him and rescued him as soon as the stray hold was up. He's completely vetted and is ready to move into his furever home for the holidays. He is really hoping to ring in the New Year with a new family!
We have had him as a foster for just over 2 months now with a couple inquiries and applications that have fallen thru for one reason or another. As his foster parents we are shocked he hasn’t been adopted yet with a face as cute as his. Since he has been with us boy oh boy has he blossomed into an amazing pup! When we first started fostering him we had him on a 40ft tie out (our 2 ft fencing would have been nothing for him to jump over) but have since upgraded to 4ft fencing so he can run around in the backyard and not be held back. We realized after he was free from the tie out what an outdoorsy kind of dog he really is. He absolutely loves to walk the perimeter of the fence and taunt the deer and squirrels and tell them whose boss.
He will go outside no matter what the weather is like too. He is very fond of taking squeaky toys and knee bones outside to run around the yard with. It’s not uncommon to find him lying under the tree enjoying the sights and smells of the outdoors. He is potty trained, enjoys walks (he pulls when he’s wearing a regular harness, but with a no pull harness he does much better in that department). He loves playing with our 5 doxies, running around the house like it’s the Indy 500. He goes to doggy daycare with our pack once a week and he gets along with dogs of all sizes. He loves to play ball as well. Crating has gotten easier with him. He goes in the crate with a treat more willingly as time goes on. With the weather changing he is a fan of sitting in front of the registers while the heat is blowing on him. We nicknamed him “Heat Hog”.
Most of all he loves human interaction and loves being touched. As long as you have your hand on him and not necessarily petting him he is a happy clam. He usually rewards you with lots of kisses. He is also less clingy and/or nervous since we have had him so that tells us that once he becomes comfortable in his surroundings he calms down and relaxes. We think he would be fine either as an only dog (he does get jealous of our own fur kids when we give them attention) or with at least 1 playmate so he’s not lonely if you work. Do not let his size fool you. He is 18lbs but he’s long and lean and very active!
He is currently being fostered in Seven Hills, OH where he is anxiously waiting to move out and explore bigger and better things. If you would like to meet him or have any questions about him email us at kmandml@hotmail.com. If you would like to adopt him go to DRNA.org and fill out an application. If you like the outdoors/hiking/camping he might be just the dog you are looking for! His adoption fee is $275.00
