| Muffin is an adorable old man that can be a little grumpy. He’s approximately 13 yrs old and lived with his dad until dad got very sick. Muffin was sent to live at a breeding facility for small dogs and lived in a crate for 51 days. He was finally released and transported to Ohio to his new foster mom. We knew he would be here a long time because he needed a lot of love and reassurance. He bit me the second day he was here. I realized it was because I put my hand in the kennel to pet him and he thought it was a threatening gesture. He will now let me take his dinner bowl out of the crate when he’s in it but his foster dad tried that and almost got bit. Muffin has the whole house and yard to hang out in but prefers an open kennel in the dining room. He loves to sit outside when we go out but if we are inside, so is he. It took about 5 weeks for him to even wander into the bedroom at night, look around and go back to the safety of his kennel. A couple weeks ago he started to come by me and want to be petted. Sometimes he gives me a little kiss when I’m petting him and talking to him. So insecure but we’re getting there. He has a little dementia but we have him on a supplement that he thinks is a treat and he’s doing so much better! Muffin is on a mild, inexpensive thyroid medication and doing fabulous on it. We had him on ear drops when he first came due to a yeast condition but that’s gone now. We would muzzle him to apply it and he was fine with that. We muzzle him also when putting him in and out of the car or bathing him. I think he “forgets” that it’s okay here. Muffin would do best in a quiet home with no children. Maybe a home with older adults, like here. He just does what he pleases and if he wants attention he lets us know. He eats good and loves treats, but nothing cold like watermelon or apples. He doesn’t like the texture. He doesn’t need a ramp but since we have them all over the house, he does use them to go in and out to do his business and sunbathing. Muffin is housebroken but we do leave a potty pad out for the times we may be gone or at night since he sleeps in his kennel and like a senior has to go potty at night. He’s so sweet. If he wants me to wake up he will stand outside my bedroom door and groan until I get up. Love him!
