Hi! My name is Ava and I am a beautiful standard girl. I am a little quiet because I am a serious girl with impeccable house manners and lots of love to share. I was rescued from a shelter in NC and, like so many dogs in the South, I tested heartworm positive. The nice folks at DRNA pulled me from the shelter because without a rescue organization willing to treat my heartworm I would have been euthanized. Sure wish someone had kept me on monthly heartworm preventative because now I have to undergo that awful heartworm treatment. My foster mom says that after I get the treatments my system has to deal with the dead heartworms that will be in my circulation so I am going to have to be kept as quiet as possible. My foster mom has already told me that means during the treatment she is going to take me outside only to go potty. Sure doesn't sound like fun to me. Because I have to complete treatment before I can go to my forever home I will be in foster care for several months. If you think I might be a good addition to your family email my foster mom and follow my progress (my foster mom is going to put updates on this page as I go through my treatment). Update 11-22-2014: I’ve news to share. My last treatment for heartworms is behind me. Now I have a waiting period of 45-60 days while the medicine works its magic. I was a rescued stray from the South and had no symptoms. It wasn’t until my vet check that the blood test showed I had heartworms. It’s been two months and I’ve tolerated the 3 required injections. My foster mom says I’m doing great. She says that once I find my forever home, I’ll get monthly preventative medicine so this will never happen again. I’m spending more time in my crate these days because exercise is restricted and I have to stay calm during my treatment. The good news is I discovered some new toys in my crate. I didn’t know it but I found that I’m particularly fond of squeaky ones. Come back to my page and check on me while I go through the treatment. ***Applicant must be willing to drive to Clarksville, Maryland to meet and adopt Ava. Her adoption fee is $275**** |
