| Smokey is one amazing dog. He was born completely deaf and with only partial vision in one eye. But you would never know that this handsome fellow has any handicap whatsoever. He is unfailingly cheerful and loving, and he is willing and able to do almost anything any other dog can do. In his foster home, he can find his way in and out of the door to the backyard, can go up and down the deck steps, knows where his bed is, and can hop up and down from the sofa like any other dog. He navigates his way around by moving in right-handed circles, orienting himself via his semi-sighted eye. Works great! He is a master at using his nose, too, and can find a treat dropped for him if only he has enough time to get to it before another dog does. He likes to ride in the car and go on adventures, but he is equally happy napping on the sofa with you. He enjoys the other dogs in the house immensely and plays with them in a rowdy, adorable way. He's no pushover, though, and is willing to fend off furry thieves when they try to sneak up on his chew toy. He is crate and gate trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and is pretty darn reliable about his house training. He loves grown ups and older kids, and loves both men and women. If you are looking for a true companion, this is the guy. |
